Paper Abstract:
|
This study examines the difference of recognition of the Windows folder icons between young people and elderly people. An appropriate screen design makes icon search easy in a VDT (Visual Display Terminal). This study focuses on the difference of visual cognition of young people and elderly people in some screen conditions. Search time becomes remarkably faster when the icons are placed in numerical order than when they are placed at random. In addition, the influence on search time is very obvious when the number of the icons on the screen increases. The influences on search time by vertical and horizontal direction placements were analyzed. Search methods are classified into 3 types depending on how the viewpoints move in icon search. |
